Making a Donation

Currently, tuition and fees for a four-year veterinary program can cost anywhere from $40,000 to $80,000, depending on the school and a student's place of residence. When other costs, such as books, room and board, and personal expenses are factored in, the total amount needed to complete a degreed veterinary program can be well over $120,000.

medical equipment - monitorVeterinary schools themselves face the constant challenge of keeping up with the latest in equipment and technology. Many people fail to realize that an EKG machine for animals is no less expensive than the same machine for humans. Instructors must continually be "re-educated" to maintain their professional certification and thus offer the very best program to their students.

As the cost of veterinary education continues to escalate, so does the need to help students meet that cost. This is the reason for The Irwin Foundation.

Any individual or organization can make a donation. The reasons for donating can be as diverse as the number of donors. Do you have a pet? Perhaps you're a dairy farmer who recognizes the need for quality veterinary care. Or, maybe you're a veterinarian wanting to "give something back" to your profession. Many businesses also seek ways to make a charitable gesture to their community, and some charitable foundations accomplish their own goals by donating to other foundations.

Tax Advantages of Donating to the Foundation

When you contribute to The Irwin Foundation, you can take full advantage of your donation for tax purposes.

In addition to federal incentives, many states also provide tax relief for charitable contributions. For example, the State of Michigan provides a generous tax credit for both businesses and individuals.

Your tax attorney can provide details on the advantages of donating to a charitable institution.
